Those crazy MacZotters are at it again!
My review of HoudahSpot as seen on MacZOT.com
–
I’ve never been really happy with Spotlight. Sure it’s a very robust search tool, but the interface just wasn’t all that impressive to me. So when I saw HoudahSpot, I gave it a try. This is totally what Spotlight has been missing! I really like the interface for defining your search criteria. It’s very intuitive AND powerful. Then once you conduct a search, the result panes are great. There’s a browser, which lets you see all the other files in that folder, an Inspector, which gives you a TON of details about the file (for example: images will show you the dimensions, resolution, type, if its RGB, etc) as well as a Preview pane, which obviously, shows you a preview of the file(s) you’re looking at! This is really just the tip of the iceberg too. Check it out!!!

NOTE: If you’re seeing this on June 16, 2006 head over to MacZOT, you might be able to get a Free copy of HoudahSpot
Search easily in Tiger, Mac OS X, with HoudahSpot
Whoa, that sucked.
Somehow this blog tanked in the last few days. My other blog on this server was just fine luckily. While it was totally unusable, I took the opportunity to upgrade to WordPress 2.0.3. Everything is running much smoother now, thank goodness.
I’m getting settled in here rather nicely. I’m ashamed to admit though that I’ve been too busy (and sleeping well on my own) to try Pzizz. It’s just a matter of time before I’ll need it though, so I’ll continue my review then!
Tugger is very happy at his new daycare. I have fun because they have webcams set up so I can watch him play!
My plants are all doing very well, you can check out my plant blog at http://flowerpot.iwritethecode.com.
Not much else going on, I really need to do better about writing over here, but now that I’ve finally got this install working well, it’ll be a lot easier. Before I was practically having to sacrifice a kitten just to post here.
Day 1 - Pzizz iPod Blog
Ok well the folks at Pzizz were QUITE generous with their MacZot promotion and are now offering an additional challenge which I am more than happy to take up. Basically they want us to use Pzizz (either the sleep OR energizer module) for 5 days and blog about your results. As everyone who knows me knows, I am quite the little insomniac and am actually in the middle of a spell right now, so what better time to try it? Moving has me very stressed out, and it’s been hard to calm down at night. Usually I play a game of Yahtzee on my cellphone, stare at the ceiling for 15 minutes, play another game of Yahtzee and so on. Doesn’t make for a very restful night’s sleep. So I’m very optimistic here.
I did try the sleep demo (during the day) last week and it definitely got me feeling sleepy. Today I am driving up to Toledo with some of my stuff, so I’ll try to check out the energizer nap beforehand! So stay tuned to see how Pzizz works out for me! Anything to avoid sleeping pills, ya know?
A Bit of Earth
I did it..I created another blog on my domain specifically for my plant posts. I haven’t deleted them from this blog yet, haven’t decided if I will or not. The link to the plant blog is over with the other links and will always be there if you want to jump over. If anything noteworthy happens, I’ll mention it here with a pointer over there.
For now, here:
Oh yeah and since I read an article today about getting comments in your blog - if you’re reading this, say hi! I want to meet people!
Just another manic Monday…
So, what do you think of the new design? I created the cloud layout a while back for a webpage, but it just wasn’t working as I wanted. Yesterday I came across a theme called Neptune, which had a great 3 column layout, so I started mucking around with that and then was like “hmmmm, I wonder…”, so I tried and voila! I’m really happy with how this one turned out. I think it’s a keeper!
Blogging
The blogging community is so great. The plugin and theme developers I’ve contacted have been very helpful and friendly! So if any of you are using WordPress, check out ThoughtMechanics. They’re the brilliant guys who came up with the theme I’m currently using, which I just love. And for you WordPress/LiveJournal bloggers, check out LiveJournal Crossposter - it’s the perfect plugin for synching from WP to LJ. The last one I used had so many problems and the developer never even responded to questions from a few of us with the same problem. LiveJournal Crossposter is WP 2.0 compatible and runs in the background after a very simple configuration. Also, Brian Meidell, who has written some kickass plugins! So kudos to you guys! Now..I need to figure out what kind of plugin I want to write!!!
Alrighty then.
Overall the upgrade went smoothly. Only two or three plugins aren’t (yet) compatible with 2.0. What I’d really like to find (or create if I ever have the time) is an attractive 3 column theme.
