Vampire Dogs (not for the squeamish)

RandomDogs

So tonight I went over to Kate’s to hang out with her, Patti and Dianna. We stitched a little, we bitched a little. They talked about kids…I stitched some more since I don’t have kids. It was fun though, regardless. On the way home, Patti and I were talking about dogs, and I mentioned how good Tugger has been lately, not destroying the house when we leave, etc. I feel the need to note that I DID comment that I will probably return to a mess since I mentioned his behaving. It’s only jinxing if you DON’T say something to that effect.

A Bit of Earth

PlantsBlog

I did it..I created another blog on my domain specifically for my plant posts. I haven’t deleted them from this blog yet, haven’t decided if I will or not. The link to the plant blog is over with the other links and will always be there if you want to jump over. If anything noteworthy happens, I’ll mention it here with a pointer over there.

For now, here:

A Bit of Earth

Oh yeah and since I read an article today about getting comments in your blog - if you’re reading this, say hi! I want to meet people!

Gettin dirty.

Plants

I did a little bit of plant work. I took a few cuttings off my ficus trees in hopes of them rooting so I can use them for my first mame bonsai attempts. I also braided up the other ficus a bit further. It doesn’t appear that any of the bark from the initial braid has grafted together, but that’s ok. I really only got about another twist and a half further up from where it was before. That’s ok though. I think it’s enough. I’m going to sign up for the bonsai class at the Conservatory after my next paycheck comes in. Yay!

Oh yeah, my clitoria vine seeds came yesterday. I couldn’t help it, I had to have them!!!

14/15th minutes of fame

DogsDogShowUSA

Minute 14 - Tugger will be featured in the Portland (TN) Progressive next week along with Alli, his rescuer! They picked up on the Dispatch article because Alli lives in Portland. She’s going to get me a copy.

Minute 15 - Tugger and I will be on the noon news (NBC) on Monday the 20th. The last time we were on the news was pre-recorded but this will be live, so I’m extra nervous!!!

Bloomin’ Orchid!

Plants

The orchid I bought the other day had a bud that was very close to blooming. It started the slow process yesterday morning. Since I work from home, I was able to watch the process throughout the day. I took pictures every few hours to document it. Unfortunately the lighting in my office isn’t the best, so a few of the pictures taken at night aren’t very bright. I put together a slideshow for your viewing pleasure!

Help a dog in need!

Dogs

If you ever wanted to donate money for pets in need, but weren’t sure who was legit and wanted to know more about where your donation would go, check out Orthodogs’ Silver Lining. Orthodogs’ Silver Lining was started by a small group of people who wanted to find a way to provide some relief for caregivers who were struggling to help their pets lead a healthy life.

Tugger and Dollie’s rescuer, Allison, seems to be a magnet for sick and injured animals, let me tell ya. She found these guys and they pledged to help her out with a percentage of the bills for one of her newer dogs, Silas, a 10 month old Great Pyr who was hit by a car and needed a leg amputated. They’ve also provided a way for other people to make donations to help cover the rest of the fees.

Silas is only one of the dogs in need at the moment on their site. There’s another dog there, Gretta, who is an assistance dog for a paraplegic man named Mark. She needed surgery for a knee injury, and the bills ran pretty high. OSL pledged to cover a percentage of Gretta’s bill as well, which is just really cool.

Anyway, I just wanted to pass on the word in case anyone wanted to donate to a good cause!

Orchid!

Plants

Or to be more specific, Phalaenopsis Bonica. It followed me home, I swear! It has one flower in bloom at the moment, one bud that looks just about ready and 4 other very small buds. I’ve never had an orchid before, I hope it behaves! This is a picture I found on Google, but mine is almost identical.

What’s going on outside of the plant world?

Random

Hmm. Not that much actually. Work is going well overall. I’ve been mostly doing work for one company lately and I really like them. They don’t mind that I don’t show up until after noon and most of the tasks I work on are pretty quick, which suits me and my ADD quite well. ;)

We’ve been working on cleaning the house in preparation for finishing the renovations. I’d really like to actually get back into our real bedroom sometime this year. We’ve been in the loft since early summer.

So yeah, sorry to be so boring, but there’s really not much going on. And you know what? That’s just fine with me.

Bamboo!

Plants

I finally bought a bamboo stalk. It’s a spiral stalk, about 12 inches and very pretty! Kate and I went to Urban Gardener yesterday and were talking to the owner about various things. She mentioned a bonsai class at the Franklin Park Conservatory, so when I got home, I decided to look into it. There’s one coming up in April - I printed out the registration form. I can’t wait! They’ll give you a tree and tools, it’s a 6 hour class spread out over 3 Wednesdays. That’ll be my birthday gift to myself maybe.

Not much else new in the plant kingdom. I did buy a bottle of SUPERthrive and will use it when I water the plants tonight. The water is sitting out now to let the bad crap evaporate. The avocado still looks happy, though I have no roots yet. I have one seedling in the peat pots, lavender I believe. No seedlings yet in the perlite. I really need a nice warmish day out so I can do some major repotting. And I still need to find a local place that carries “No Damp Off”.
