Resolutions

Random

2006 already? I’ve been thinking about resolutions - if I should even bother making any. Every year, I come up with a list of things that I *will do*. Every year, by the second week in January, I’ve pretty much forgotten what I’d even resolved to do.

This year probably won’t be any different. I’m so busy freelancing and taking care of the animals, I have very little time for anything else! That said, I’m going to be different. This year I’m going to make a list of things that I resolve to not do!

  1. I won’t get any more pets
  2. I won’t eat fast food more than once a month
  3. I won’t get a “real” job, freelancing is way too much fun!
  4. I won’t watch any stupid reality shows
  5. I won’t cut my hair!
  6. I won’t go outside if it’s under 20 degrees out
  7. I won’t gain any weight

That’s it for now, it’s a start. I’m sure I’ll have more to add to this list soon.

So…what won’t YOU do in 2006? :)

Alrighty then.

Blog

Overall the upgrade went smoothly. Only two or three plugins aren’t (yet) compatible with 2.0. What I’d really like to find (or create if I ever have the time) is an attractive 3 column theme.

Home Again

RandomDogs

We’re back from Detroit. Overall it was a good trip. Tugger, on the whole, did a great job of impressing his grandparents. He only had 3 fiascos.

  1. Right after we got there he lifted his leg and peed on the *fake* christmas tree.
  2. Pulled a Houdini and escaped from his crate, and did his business on the carpet.
  3. Doesn’t realize he can take a shit while on a leash, so let loose while in his crate, covering himself and the surrounding area with 3 days worth of mess.

Yet he was still better behaved than Benny. Funny that.

Anyway, the rest of the week should be interesting, since I’m the only developer who will be working this week. I hope it’s relatively calm. I doubt it though. As soon as I have some spare time, I’ll be teaching myself AJAX.

Update to Fido Alert

Dogs

The lady emailed me to thank us for looking for Gracie, which was really sweet. What’s cool is I now have her phone # in case Tugger ever gets out, she said she’d return the favor! I shouldn’t say in case, I should say “the next time”, because it’s inevitable. Benny slipped out of the yard last night as we were closing the gate and he tried to eat our next door neighbor. Luckily Jim likes him. Not sure why, Ben’s insane.

Fido Alert

Dogs

I got an email today from Sue, the owner of Urban Axis, as I was about to start working. A neighborhood dog was missing, somehow it had gotten out while the owner was in the shower, and it had been missing for almost an hour already. Knowing how close they lived to High St, and how I’d want someone to do this for me if one of my dogs ran away, we set out in the car, driving around for quite a while. Checked the park, drove all up and down 3rd, City Park, Pearl, High St and Front. No luck. We had a bit more time we could spare, but we decided to get some food at Wendy’s. So we’re sitting at the drive thru and Sue calls. They JUST found her…behind Wendy’s! We were trying to decide where we’d go if we were a dog…she wasn’t at the park, not at the market, not Taco Bell (wise dog)..but Wendy’s, now that’s pretty good. And I’m pretty sure she crossed High St to get there too. Lucky dog, Gracie.

More companies should follow suit

Random

Read this.

This is one store I will be certain to shop at now that there’s one here in town. So many companies talk about how important their employees are to them. How many of them even come close to this? Far too few.

Cold, cold, cold.

PlantsRandom

The current temperature is 11 with a windchill of -1. I think I’ll be staying inside today. There’s no good reason to go out in this unless you have to go to work or something. High point #1 for working at home. I feel bad for the dogs when they have to go potty.

Yesterday in the mail I received one of the many freebies I’ve signed up for recently. This one was a drink shaker from Kahlua, in the shape of an actual Kahlua bottle. It’s great! I’ll probably use it more for decoration than as a shaker, since I’m not much of a drinker.

I lost a plant recently. It was an african violet I’ve had since spring. It had been doing beautifully in its self-watering pretty ceramic pot, but then I went and bought some liquid “african violet food” and must have added too much because it went all mushy and I couldn’t save it. So I got a new one the other day. Purple flowers again, since Lowe’s didn’t have any nice looking ones with raspberry flowers. I do like the purple ones. The rest of my plants are doing well overall, except that troublesome Jasmine. The lithops seeds are growing pretty well, it’s cool to see! They’re about the size of the head of a pin, very tiny still.

Stay warm!

Burn Day

Random

Today is “Burn Day” for Kate! Basically they’re going to set a house on fire (several times I think) and they get to go in and put out the fires! We’re going to go watch and take pics and hang out with the McDonald men. Sounds pretty cool though, I hope Kate doesn’t get hurt!!!

I’m SO popular. Haha.

Web StuffGeek StuffBlog

So it seems like, if you have a blog, you should set up your RSS feed. And if you have a feed, you should run it through Feedburner. So while I’m using the excuse of doing this stuff so I can learn all about feeds and syndication and yadda yadda for my clients, I really do find it kind of neat. So I set it all up, and looked at my stats. I have one subscriber…me. ;)

So that makes me curious..how many of you actually read RSS feeds? I use NetNewsWire Lite (RSS aggregator for Mac) and have about 30 feeds. Sure makes it easier than going to each of those pages every day to see updates. So do you use it? How many of you don’t even know wtf I’m talking about? Really, I’m curious.

New Blog Theme

InsomniaBlog

So another night of insomnia led me to changing the theme on my WordPress blog. I like it a lot better, still tweaking it a bit though. The name has kinda changed from Short Attention Span Theater to a quote “How do you document real life, when real life’s getting more like fiction each day?” - from RENT. It’s a good name for a blog though? For LJ’s purpose though, the link back to my blog, I’m going to leave it as Short Attention Span Theater, at least for now.

Ok, it’s 5:11am. I’m gonna go see if there’s any room in bed for me…
